Thiruvananthapuram Kochuveli Railway Station

The Kochuveli Railway Station, situated northward at about 8 kilometres away from the city, is a railway station in Thiruvananthapuram serving the passenger trains to lessen commotion at the Thiruvananthapuram Central Station. The Thiruvananthapuram City Bypass of National Highway 47 passes nearby the Kochuveli Railway Station. The Kazhakootam – Kovalam bypass road is located within 1.2 kilometres of the Kochuveli Railway Station.

Travelling to and from Kochuveli Railway Station

Low Floor AC Feeder Buses operate from Kochuveli Railway Station to the city of Thiruvananthapuram. This bus service is provided by KSRTC mostly for the convenience of the passengers travelling to and from Thiruvananthapuram on long distance trains. On the basis of the train schedules at the Kochuveli Railway Station the buses operate to and from the station according to fixed timings. The World Market Junction along the Kazhakootam – Kovalam bypass road of NH 47 is the bus station situated nearest to the Kochuveli Railway Station. Buses from this junction are available for different routes in and around Thiruvananthapuram and Kazhakootam as well.

Terminals at Kochuveli Railway Station

In 2005, the Kochuveli Railway Station began operating with a total of two entries, one on the western side and the other on the eastern. The terminal that was built earlier is positioned in the western side whereas the newer terminal at the station, which is serving the currently operating passenger trains, is situated at the eastern side of the station. At present, Kochuveli Railway Station is handling 1 passenger train and 11 super fast express trains.

A wide number of trains that are presently being operated from Thiruvananthapuram Central will be served by the Kochuveli Railway Station on completion of the construction of the entire terminal. Sabari Express is one such train about to be operated from Kochuveli terminal. Many special trains are operate at times, especially during peak seasons, to various important destinations across the nation. The special trains run from the Kochuveli Railway Station generally to the cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Dadar, Bilaspur, New Tinsukia, Yesvantpur and Satragachi.

To minimize inconvenience of the passengers and rush at the station the Kochuveli Railway Station has included the following facilities:
  • Computerised ticket reservation counter for super fast express trains
  • Computerised ticket reservation counter for passenger trains
  • Announcement and notification regarding arrival and departure of trains
  • Overhead Foot bridge

Some constructional works are yet to be carried on for further development of the railway facility at Kochuveli. These include construction of a foot bridge that will join the platforms on either side of station and the car shed at the station. The 2nd and 3rd platforms also have not started functioning.
